Studying in Canada – Key Facts

UG Admissions

  • Direct admissions after STD XIIth with minimum 60% marks (higher for top universities).
  • SAT/ACT not mandatory.
  • IELTS is essential (6/6.5 bands at most universities).
  • Some programs may ask for a portfolio (for Design, Architecture
    or Arts).

PG Admissions

  • Direct admission after 3-4 years UG Degree. Minimum 60-70% marks in UG required (75%+ in top ranked universities).
  • IELTS mandatory, GRE/GMAT are not essential.
  • Relevant background or work exp. for specialized programs (e.g. MBA,
    Data Science, Biotechnology).

Tuition & Other Costs

  • Annual Tuition: Tuition Fee for Degree programs ranges between C$ 20k-40k, for Diploma programs it is usually between C$ 12k-25k.
  • Annual Living costs: C$ 10k-15k (higher in cities like Toronto and Montreal).
  • Proof of funds: 1 year tuition fee & living, usually between C$ 25-20k, this includes Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of C$ 20,635.

Fine Points

  • Duration of programs: UG 3 or 4 years, PG 1.5or- 2 years.
  • Work up to 20 hours/week during study and full-time during vacations.
  • Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after degree completion.
