Studying in USA – Key Facts

UG Admissions

  • Grade 12 with strong academic performance in core subjects. GPA requirement varies between universities.
  • SAT/ACT mandatory at some universities and optional at others.
  • IELTS is an essential requirements (6.5/7 bands at leading universities, some univs accept 6 band too).

PG Admissions

  • Direct admission after 4 years UG Degree, some univs need a pathway for 3-year UG degree holders.
  • IELTS mandatory, GRE/GMAT scores (mandatory for some univs, optional at most others.
  • UG Transcript & LORs mandatory.
  • Work experience mandatory for some programs (esp. MBA).

Tuition & Other Costs

  • Annual Tuition at Public Universities could be between $ 20k-35k, at Private Univs it ranges between $ 30k-55k. Ivy Leagues cost higher ($ 65k onwards).
  • Annual Living costs: $ 12k- 15k in smaller towns and $ 15k – $ 20k in major cities.
  • Proof of funds equal to 1-year expenses (tuition + living) are required for VISA, bank statements, education loans, scholarships or sponsor affidavits accepted.

Fine Points

  • UG program are usually 4 years, PG programs are 2 years duration, in some cases, PG programs could be 1 or 1.5-year duration too.
  • Final year students can apply
  • Good academic grades (minimum GPA of 3) are essential at top universities.
